Abstract
This study was devised to observe the cytotoxic activity of water extracts of the Trigliisemen and Galarhaeus pekinensis against some cancer cells in vitro and in vivo.

Three species of cancer cells, murine leukemic lymphoblast, L 1210 and P 388, AND murine ascitic sarcoma 180 cells, were used for this experiment.

The growth rate, dose-response and size distribution of L 1210 and P 388 cells cultured in the medium with or without the water extracts of the Triglii semen and Galarhaeus pekinensis were determined.

The antitumor effects of each extract was estimated by the measurement of the survival tome of swiss mice inoculated with sarcoma 180 cells in vivo test.

The experimental results obtained are summarized as follows;

1. The doubling times of the L 1210 and P 388 cells in culture medium without adding any extract were about 11 and 12 hours, respectively.
2. The cytotoxic activity of the Galarhaers semen extract against the L 1210 and P 388 cells were stronger than that of the Triglii semen extract.
3. The cytotoxic activities of the both extracts in the P 388 cells solution were more active than in the L 1210 cells solution.
4. The cytotoxic activities of the both extracts against the L 1210 and P 388 cells were highest after incubation for 9 to 12 hours.
5. The size distribution of L 1210 cells incubated with the Galarhaeus semen extract for 6 and 9 hours were shifted to direction of the small size region.
6. Extending effect of the survival time of group, by administration of the each extract.
